Wow and I thought I was paranoid after the League screwed us in 05 and the Pens magically got Crosby....

Some serious Alex Jones level of conspiracy here my man.

Heck ya! I’m contemplating staying awake for 72 hours and then doing a revision!!

In all seriousness, the format is way too wide open. Having up to three “placeholder” winners until after the first round is just screwy.

I’m glad you brought that up though. Bobby Ryan is a guy I’ve been thinking about during the break. I really hope he catches a break and can get things back on track. That kid went through hell.

I just think the lottery would have been more “fair” to still have the 7 teams that didn’t get a spot in top 3, assuming an 8-15 seed wins one or two spots, to still be in on the lottery in phase 2. How it’s just solely the 8-15 that get in on phase 2 is absolute CRAP!!!

That’s an interesting take. If all three picks go to the “bottom 7” there won’t be a phase two. I think phase two is to make sure that a team couldn’t automatically know their pick if they drop the first round. There’s no guarantee of phase 2, but I have a feeling we’ll see it

Feel pretty similar. Although I think the actual odds for the bottom seven dont actually change? Still, be prerty weak if a top team won the lottery this way.

One good thing for the sens is that it sounds like the isles pick could go up this way.

You’re right. Same odds as last year, but the nasty twist of the “unknown 8”. I think Isles pick may be lotto protected...

This is the unfortunate byproduct of teams tanking. Detroit clearly was just horrible.

The fact that a really competitive club can win the lottery is ridiculous.

I have that same feeling. There will be at least one team in the 8-15 them at will be top 3 🙄. I just pray the kings don’t drop the max as they did last year. Obviously DET doesn’t want that too. My best of worst case is that I hope DET and OTT get a top 3. Cause that would guarantee kings get 5

Its lotto protected, but I read in twitter if teams below them win and the isles are knocked out that pick could go up, absent of the lottery.

He was a great player for us with magic hands ...

Never liked the trade even if we did get Silf out of it...

If he does get bought out I wonder if he’d go back. Some promising looks this year

Dropping 3 is so painful. Hate seeing that

I mean. It’ll be painful but look at the kings. Drafted Turcotte 5OA while dropping the max and snagged Vilardi at 11 while dropping 2 back.

Either way 1st is obviously fantastic but I’d rather drop to 4 than 7 which is a strong possibility for LA 🙄

Good point. Even Kopitar was 11 pick in 05. That was a steal. You’ve got good leadership in the front office for sure

Having the exact same 18.5% lotto odds as every other last place team in lotto history? Oh wow totally unfair. Completelyyyyyyy unfair that it’s the same, exact, even playing field as past last place teams.

I wouldn’t be complaining with a near 19% chance. The original idea of guaranteeing a top-2 pick was crap.

Having a shot at the playoffs should automaticly reduce your lotto odds by 2% per round that you play, and no lotto chance if you get to the CF. That would be fair in my estimation.

. The delineation between lottery eligible and not is if a team is in the playoffs. You expand the number of playoff teams you should reduce the number of lottery eligible teams.

From another thread:

Steve Almighty shouldn’t have ripped the NHL for the early June draft that benefitted HIS organization. When the league looked for positive feedback, Stevie ripped them a new one and this is their way to jab back at him. Like in life, when you’re getting some booty from a hot chick you don’t complain to her that she’s too hot for you and she really lowered her standards by hooking up with you!

I thought this was too juicy to leave it alone.

Detriot has the same odds the last few years the worst team has had. Not screwed at all. Phase two is just there if a team from 8-15 move up, they can determine what team would be.

Literally same as normal, including odds, except a phase two since teams 8-15 have a shot to advance to the playoffs.

Not sure what the gripe is about.

In general I agree with you. From Detroit's perspective this is pretty much the scenario we were preparing for all year.

From a "feelings" perspective it sucks to get jerked around, told that the new plan is to guarantee you a top-2 pick, then say "just kidding" and go back to a 50% shot at picking fourth. But that's not really my main gripe.

My main complaint about the system is that it allows some absolutely stacked teams that would have likely made a traditional 16-team playoff (Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Toronto) a shot at the top three (even first overall) if they get bounced in the qualifying round. I don't think that's fair at all.

I'd prefer some kind of hybrid system where, even if three lotto balls must be selected and teams that bomb out of the qualifying round are eligible, there's still a max number of slots (somewhere in the 4-8 range) that they can move up.

If, say, the rule was that teams that are selected by the lotto can move up by up to six slots, that would mean only the seven teams completely outside the 24-team tournament could select first overall. I think that's more reasonable.

D town's in better shape than the Habs who got a playoff ticket only to possibly lose a lottery chance and possibly drop 8 slots down to 16th in the entry draft...bull poop
